History

Vyncolit NV history has begun in the early part of the 20th century through Vynckier company who was founded in 1920 and was a pioneer in electrical devices. Vynckier required a cheaper and better alternative to the ceramic materials that they used in their products and decided to build a plant to manufacture a new type of plastic material.

The product was called Vyncolite and it is better known today as just "Vyncolit". In the early days, only simple wood and stone flour filled grades of phenolic were available. Then, a wide range of special engineering quality grades, based on many Thermoset resins, has been developed for use in demanding applications where most thermoplastics are unable to perform.

Vyncolit NV built a brand new state-of-the-art compounding unit for Engineering Thermosets at its plant in Ghent, Belgium. The new, state-of-the-art, compounding unit adds a capacity of 2,750 metric tons of Vyncolit Engineering thermosets to the existing Vyncolit NV plant capacity. With this investment of approximately 3.5 million Euro, Sumitomo Bakelite Co., Ltd. confirms its confidence and ambition as global leader for phenolic molding compounds.

"The decision to build a new compounding unit for Vyncolit Engineering Thermosets in Ghent is a major step forward for our Engineering thermoset business,” said Henny Van Dijk, Executive Officer of Sumitomo Bakelite Co., Ltd. “As a global leader in engineering thermosets, this new compounding unit will secure our position in the European marketplace for the years to come. The market for phenolic molding compounds is growing and our Vyncolit products are well-suited for many new applications”
